TMZ has new video of Young leaving a Hollywood police station in which she criticizes the actions of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

TMZ reports that the?52-year-old "Blade Runner" star got into a dispute with a security guard and was arrested at 9:25 p.m. Sunday. She was booked at the Hollywood police station for investigation of misdemeanor battery. City News Service says she posted $20,000 bail and was released early Monday.
Police Sgt. Enrique Mendoza confirmed the arrest but wouldn't give details about the incident or the alleged victim.
TMZ reports that Young was seen leaving the police station early Monday morning and said?she was waiting with friends to enter the Governor's Ball when an Oscar official suggested security make a citizen's arrest. She made no mention of any physical encounter with a security guard, the website reports.
The Governor's Ball is the official Oscar party and is held above the awards show's venue, the Hollywood & Highland Theatre. Young's movie credits also include "Stripes" and "No Way Out."
A voicemail message left early Monday for Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences spokeswoman Tara Curtis wasn't immediately returned.

Objective Coloretal carcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors in our country, with the incidence rate is second only pulmonary carcinoma, gastric carcinoma, hepatocarcinoma. With the changes of the diet and living environment, the incidence rate of colorectal carcinoma increased from 0.06? in 60? to 0.24? in 90? last century. With the development of modern science and technology, there are more and more new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. But the prognosis of colorectal carcinoma is remains poor, and the recurrence rate is rather high. But the molecular mechanisms of colorectal carcinoma remains unclear. Kr?ppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) is expressed abundantly in the epithelial cells of gastrointestinal tract and deregulation of KLF4 was linked to several types of cancer. It is of interest to study the expression and role of KLF4 in colorectal carcinoma.Methods 1. Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect the expression of KLF4 with the paraffin sections of tissue microarray, which contains 77 colorectal cancers, 40 normal mucosae and 7 adenoma. Evaluation of immunostaining: results were evaluated by two experienced pathologists. In colorectal tissue, brown granule appearing in cytoplasm meant positive expression. Ratio of positive cell number to total cell 11%~50% score 2; 51%?80% score 3; >80% score 4. By the degree of staining: weak score 1; moderate score 2; strong score 3. Combine with the two evaluation totally 4 levels: whether the staining, the rate of positive cells ? 10% meant negative expression. 2. Western blotting was used to compare KLF4 expression in colorectal carcinoma to normal mucosa and adenoma of the same patients. Cases of colorectal carcinoma tumor tissues which were removed by operation contrast with normal mucosa whose distance was above 10 centimeter from tumor. ? -actin as the internal standard, was performed to detect the level of KLF4 protein between fresh colorectal

Deadly bird flu studies to stay secret for now: WHO

GENEVA/LONDON (Reuters) - Two studies showing how scientists mutated the H5N1 bird flu virus into a form that could cause a deadly human pandemic will be published only after experts fully assess the risks, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.
Speaking after a high-level meeting of flu experts and U.S. security officials in Geneva, a WHO official said an deal had been reached in principle to keep details of the controversial work secret until deeper risk analyses could be carried out.
"There is a preference from a public health perspective for full disclosure of the information in these two studies. However there are significant public concerns surrounding this research that should first be addressed," said Keiji Fukuda, the WHO's assistant director-general for health security and environment.
The WHO called the meeting to break a deadlock between scientists who have studied the mutations needed to make H5N1 bird flu transmit between mammals, and the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB), which wanted the work censored before it was published in scientific journals.
Biosecurity experts fear mutated forms of the virus that research teams in The Netherlands and the United States independently created could escape or fall into the wrong hands and be used to spark a pandemic worse than the 1918-19 outbreak of Spanish flu that killed up to 40 million people.
WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said that because of these fears, "there must be a much fuller discussion of risk and benefits of research in this area and risks of virus itself."
But a scientist close to the NSABB who spoke to Reuters immediately after the decision said the board was deeply "frustrated" by the situation.
The only NSABB member attending the meeting was infectious disease expert Paul Keim of Northern Arizona University and he "got the hell beat out of him," the source said.
"It was a closed meeting dominated by flu people who have a vested interest in continuing this kind of work," he added.
The WHO said experts at the meeting included lead researchers of the two studies, scientific journals interested in publishing the research, funders of the research, countries who provided the viruses, bioethicists and directors from several WHO-linked laboratories specializing in influenza.
HIGH FATALITY RATE
The H5N1 virus, first detected in Hong Kong in 1997, is entrenched among poultry in many countries, mainly in Asia, but so far remains in a form that is hard for humans to catch.
It is known to have infected nearly 600 people worldwide since 2003, killing half of them, a far higher death rate than the H1N1 swine flu which caused a flu pandemic in 2009/2010.
Last year, two teams of scientists - one led by Ron Fouchier at Erasmus Medical Center and another led by Yoshihiro Kawaoka at the University of Wisconsin - said they had found that just a handful of mutations would allow H5N1 to spread like ordinary flu between mammals, and remain as deadly as it is now.
This type of research is seen as vital for scientists working to develop vaccines, diagnostic tests and anti-viral drugs that could be deployed in the event of an H5N1 pandemic.
In December, the NSABB asked two leading scientific journals, Nature and Science, to withhold details of the research for fear it could be used by bioterrorists.
They said a potentially deadlier form of bird flu poses one of the gravest known threats to the human population and justified the unprecedented call to censor the research.
The WHO voiced concerns, and flu researchers from around the world declared a 60-day moratorium on January 20 on "any research involving highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 viruses" that produce easily contagious forms.
Dr. Bruce Alberts, editor-in-chief of the journal Science, said it is now likely the paper submitted to Science and to the journal Nature will be published in full.
Alberts said it is still not clear how the scientists in Geneva plan to handle biosafety issues mentioned by the group, and it is still not clear when the papers will be published, but it will likely not be years.
"I hope this does not cause the world governments and WHO to stop working on this problem," Alberts said of any potential fallout from the decision at a news briefing at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Vancouver.
When asked how the journal is safeguarding copies of the as-yet-unpublished paper, he said it is in a locked electronic file and is password protected. And the magazine has asked reviewers of the paper to destroy their review copies.
Fouchier, who took part in the two-day meeting at the WHO which ended on Friday, said the consensus of experts and officials there was "that in the interest of public health, the full paper should be published" at some future date.
"This was based on the high public health impact of this work and the need to share the details of the studies with a very big community in the interest of science, surveillance and public health on the whole," he told reporters.
In its current form, people can contract H5N1 only through close contact with ducks, chickens or other birds that carry it, and not from infected individuals.
But H5N1 can acquire mutations that allow it to live in the upper respiratory tract rather than the lower, and the Dutch and U.S. researchers found a way to make it travel via airborne droplets between infected ferrets. Flu viruses are thought to behave similarly in the animals and in people.
Asked about the potential bioterrorism risks of his and the U.S. team's work, Fouchier said "it was the view of the entire group" at the meeting that the risks that this particular virus or flu viruses in general could be used as bioterrorism agents "would be very, very slim".
"The risks are not nil, but they are very, very small."

The clicks through your digital screen door are steadily increasing, you?re getting more than a trickle of ad squares, and you didn?t have to borrow against your credit card once in the past six months to pay bills ? a first. But you know in your entrepreneurial bones it?s time to take your two-year-old enterprise to that ?next level.?
So what should you do? Maybe give yourself a break from 60-hour weeks and invest in your first full-time reporter? Maybe not. Maybe the better choice would be to focus on technology that exploits social media. Fast-improving digital technology can lead to better content, more engaged users and open the way to new advertisers, including sponsors. Technology is also less expensive than staff.
Social media like Twitter and Facebook have become de rigeur for most publishers, but they?re not enough to get to the next level. In order to really interact with your community, you have to tear down the walls of your newsroom, and recreate that newsroom outside, among the people and places you cover. Invite readers not just to comment on articles you publish but write their own articles on topics that keep animating your community week after week.
Take food choices on the menu at your local schools ? a controversial topic that is often a hot-button local news issues. The conventional way to approach this topic is quote the school system?s nutritionist and reel off some sample menus featuring more vegetables and fruits. That?s okay, for starters. But it ignores the people who matter the most ? the students who have to eat the artichokes and apples that replace the french fries and potato chips. In that situation, why not invite some seniors from the high school to conduct their own tasting session on video, and let those students upload clips directly to the site?
If the high schoolers have opinions that diverge from the nutritionist?s, that?s okay. It can lead to further discussion on the site ? maybe a riposte from the student guinea pigs ? and possibly a compromise that accommodates teenage palates but also recognizes the importance of healthier school lunch menus. Thailand: Iranians planned to attack Israelis (AP)
BANGKOK ? The Iranians arrested after accidentally setting off an explosives cache in Bangkok were planning to attack Israeli diplomats, Thailand's police chief said Thursday, the first confirmation by local officials that the group was plotting terror attacks in the Southeast Asian country.
Police chief Gen. Prewpan Dhamapong said that Thai authorities "know for certain that (the target) was Israeli diplomats."
"This issue was about individuals and the targets were specific," he said. "This was something personal."
Israel is accusing Iran of waging a campaign of state terror against Israeli targets abroad, including an explosion Monday in New Delhi that tore through an Israeli diplomatic vehicle, wounding the driver and a diplomat's wife, and a foiled attempt the same day to detonate another bomb on the car of driver for the Israeli Embassy in the former Soviet republic of Georgia.
Iran has denied responsibility for all three plots, including one uncovered in Bangkok on Tuesday when explosives stored in a house occupied by several Iranian men blew up accidentally.
The Israeli ambassador to Thailand, Itzhak Shoham, declined to comment on the report and said the Israeli Embassy was open and functioning as normal.
Shoham told The Associated Press earlier this week, however, that the similarity of the bombs found in Bangkok and New Delhi had led Israel to believe the plots were linked.
Prewpan confirmed that two homemade "sticky" bombs found at the blast site Tuesday matched the devices planted on Israeli diplomatic cars in India and Georgia a day earlier.
"The type of improvised explosives they used were the same. The type that was attached to vehicles," Prewpan said.
Last month, after police arrested a Lebanese-Swedish man in Thailand with alleged links to Hezbollah, authorities here insisted Thailand was only being used as a staging ground for attacks, but was not the target. The man led police to a warehouse near Bangkok packed with more than 8,800 pounds (4,000 kilograms) of urea fertilizer and other materials that could be used to make bombs.
At the time, Israel and the United States warned their citizens to be alert. The U.S. Embassy said foreign terrorists may have been looking to attack tourist areas in Bangkok and Thai media reported the attacks were aimed at Israeli targets, including the Israeli Embassy.
Thai officials say it is not clear if the two incidents are connected.
Police and investigators are still trying to determine if the Iranians found in Bangkok were part of a larger terror group.
Two of the men were detained Tuesday after fleeing their destroyed house; they have been identified as Saeid Moradi and Mohammad Kharzei. A third Iranian, Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, was detained Wednesday in Malaysia, one day after boarding a flight there from the Thai capital.
Malaysia federal police spokesman Ramli Yoosuf said Sadaghatzadeh was being investigated for terrorism-related activities linked to the Bangkok blasts, but could not say whether he would be extradited to Thailand.
A Bangkok court has approved arrest warrants for all three men as well as an Iranian woman named Leila Rohani who rented the destroyed house. Prewpan said Rohani was being sought for questioning, but was thought to have left Thailand.
All four now face criminal charges including possession of explosives, attempted murder, attempted murder of a policeman and causing explosions that damaged property.
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the violence.
"If this aggression isn't halted, ultimately it will spread to many other countries," Netanyahu said in Israel's parliament Wednesday. He convened his Security Cabinet to discuss terrorism against Israel and "Iran's involvement in repeated attempts to attack Israeli targets," his office said.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast called the allegations baseless and said Israel was trying to damage his country's relations with Thailand and fuel conspiracy theories. Iran has blamed the Jewish state for the recent killings of Iranian atomic scientists.
At least five bombs were identified in Bangkok. The first blew off the roof of the men's house, and Moradi detonated two others. He hurled one at a taxi when its driver refused to give him a ride, wounding the driver and three other bystanders. He threw another explosive as he fled police, and the blast ripped off one of his legs below the knee.
When police searched the men's house in the busy Sukhumvit Road area, a bomb squad found and defused two explosives, each made of three or four pounds of C-4 explosives inside a pair of radios.
The type of explosives suggested they would have been used to target individuals rather than large crowds or buildings, said National Security Council chief Wichean Potephosree.

Floyd Mayweather unleashed a barrage of verbal body blows at Jeremy Lin earlier this week, claiming via Twitter that Linsanity is only a thing because Lin is Asian. (Buzzer! Wrong.). But as usual, Money is punching at the wrong target (his fight with Manny Pacquiao now scheduled for 2025 on the moon).
A more logical opponent for Mouthyweather would have been Josh Hamilton. Why, Floyd might have tweeted, is Hamilton getting all of this understanding and sympathy after yet another substance abuse-related relapse? If Hamilton were black, would he be getting the same kid glove treatment?
Hamilton is a four-time All-Star and 2010 AL MVP who is also noted for having the longest Wikipedia ?Drug and Alcohol Addiction? section in the majors ? 19.2 inches. This beats even Darryl Strawberry (17 inches), the inactive record holder. Hams passed The Straw just last week when he was spotted drinking at a bar in Dallas: Sherlock?s Pub (home of the Snake Bite!). This was such a well-kept secret drinking spot that teammate Ian Kinsler quickly showed up and tried to drag him out of there. I?m seeing Matt Damon and Edward Norton in the movie version of this, by the way.
Now Hamilton has offered a round of mea culpas on the house, even appearing on Glenn Beck?s ultra-secret pay-per-view internet TV clubhouse, GBTV, to explain himself in a one-on-one interview (sans actual Glenn Beck). CBS News:

I digress. This is of course a serious issue, and I have no problem with offering Mr. Hamilton another life mulligan. He deserves every bit of compassion and assistance that people are willing to offer. And so far that has been a lot.
But what if Josh Hamilton were black?
That would be a good subject for Eddie Murphy to tackle, if he were to remake his classic Saturday Night Live ?White Like Me? sketch. In case you haven?t seen it, the satirical piece has Murphy dressed in a business suit, with ?whiteface? makeup, in which he interacts with Caucasian people who assume he?s white. He discovers that white people secretly get all kinds of perks when they?re with their own (the bus is free, for instance). When a black person shows up, normal rates apply.
Is this what?s happening with Josh Hamilton now? What if this were, say, Justin Upton? How about all the black NBA and NFL players people tend to write off as thugs and addicts when they have problems with substance abuse?
And would Glenn Beck welcome a black or Latino athlete to his show to discuss yet another of his relapses? Is Beck the Nancy Grace of political commentators? (Grace seems only concerned with Caucasian, preferably blonde, missing children. Missing black kids need not apply).
Beck may have been drawn to Hamilton because of the player?s Christian faith (he says his 2009 relapse was due to ?me taking my focus off the most important thing in my recovery, which is my relationship with Christ?), his staunch conservative politics, or simple geography: both are based in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
But still, I have a hard time seeing Strawberry sitting in the Beck studio, talking of God and redemption.
Hamilton, during his interview on GBTV: ?Satan doesn?t have any more authority over me.?
Ah, Satan?s fault. We?ll arrest him then.
To the Rangers? credit, they?re approaching Hamilton?s latest travails pretty much the same as they approached Ron Washington?s. The Texas manager tested positive for cocaine in 2009, and the club said they wouldn?t fire him if he underwent treatment and counseling.
But I can?t really imagine the rest of the world showing this much understanding toward Hamilton if his skin was a few shades darker. Where are your opinions on race when we really need them, Floyd? Man, you duck all the big fights.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (CNS) -- Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire Feb. 13 signed a measure that legalizes marriage for same-sex couples, making Washington the seventh state, along with the District of Columbia, where same-sex marriage is legal. The House passed the bill with a 55-43 vote Feb. 8, a week after the Senate approved it. The same-sex marriage law takes effect 90 days after the governor's signature, but opponents have promised to fight it with a ballot measure that would allow voters to overturn it. If opponents gather 120,000 signatures, the measure will be put to a referendum in November. Prior to the vote, the state's bishops urged legislators to reject the measure and "defend the current legal definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman." In Jan. 23 testimony before a Senate committee, Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain urged lawmakers to oppose the measure "based on the grave challenge this legislation poses to the common good. By attempting to redefine marriage, it ignores the origin, purpose and value of marriage to individuals, families and society." The Washington bill was modeled after similar legislation approved by New York in June, which allows churches and religious groups to choose not to perform same-sex marriages. They also can deny same-sex couples access to their facilities for weddings. Across the country in New Jersey, the state Senate passed a bill Feb. 13 to legalize same-sex marriage. The state Assembly was to vote on it Feb. 16. Gov. Chris Christie has vowed to veto such a bill if it passes and let voters decide on it in a November referendum. In Maryland, Catholic leaders continued their campaign in support of traditional marriage Feb. 10, testifying before members of the House of Delegates against a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state.

? Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver and Sumter native Freddie Solomon lost his battle with colon and liver cancer on Monday, passing away in Tampa, Florida at the age of 59.? In 2004, WPDE Sports profiled the 15 greatest athletes of the Pee Dee and Grand Strand.? Solomon came in at #3 in our poll based on our panel of local sports historians from the coaching community.? Solomon went from Sumter to the University of Tampa and an NFL career at Miami and San Francisco highlighted by two Super Bowl wins.?

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Freddie Solomon, the former Miami Dolphins and 49ers wide receiver who became known as "Fabulous Freddie" and committed himself to community service, has died. He was 59.? Solomon lived in Florida and had battled cancer over the past year. The 49ers announced his death on Monday.? The Dolphins selected Solomon in the second round of the 1975 draft out of the University of Tampa. He spent his first three NFL seasons with Miami and his final eight in San Francisco, finishing with 371 receptions for 5,846 yards and 48 touchdowns in 371 games. His 43 TD catches with the Niners are tied for sixth most in team history.
