Google's 16GB Nexus 7 tablet sells out

Google has run out of the new 16GB Nexus 7 tablets on its online store, but still has the 8GB version for sale.

Google Inc. has reportedly sold out of the 16-gigabyte version of its new Nexus 7 tablet, with the devices disappearing from the company's online store.

The Guardian newspaper in London reports that the Mountain View company (NASDAQ:GOOG) underestimated the popularity of that version of the Nexus 7, while saying that demand for the 8GB version "remains comparatively low."

The sellout is reportedly expanding beyond the Google Play Store, as well. On their first weekend in some big box stores including Sears, CIO Today reports that some of them are also out of the 16GB version of the device but others are still selling them.

GameStop lists the tablet as being a back-order item and Staples lists it as a special order request.

PCWorld, meanwhile, reports that sellouts may not be Google's only problem with the Nexus 7. It reports that there are display complaints, including including backlight bleeding, touch responsiveness problems and defective manufacturing.
