A new study suggests that hot chocolate might actually taste better when drunk from an orange, or cream-coloured mug.
It is well known that various external factors unrelated to food can affect the way people perceive taste ? for example, the colour of a plate, the brand of ice-cream or the price of a bottle of wine.
The co-author of the hot chocolate study said that the colour of the vessel that food or drink is consumed from can enhance flavour and aroma.
?In order to conduct the study, Bettina Piqueras-Fiszman and her colleagues asked 57 participants to enjoy some hot chocolate.?They drank the hot cocoa out of four different plastic cups: white, cream, orange, and red.?All the cups were lined white on the inside for the experiment.
?The participants who drank from the cream or orange coloured cups said their drink was more flavourful.?
?Participants also said the orange and cream coloured cups tasted better even though they said there weren?t any differences in sweetness or aroma between the coloured cups.?
Perhaps now we?ll be seeing more orange mugs around?
