At the opening ceremonies (August 10) for this year?s Leadville Trail 100 MTB, Life Time chairman, president and chief executive officer Bahram Akradi presented the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) with a check for $20,600 from the Leadville Qualifying Series events to support IMBA?s mission of new and better trails for mountain biking.

?We?re honored to partner with IMBA as its mission mirrors our dedication to growing and enhancing the sport of mountain biking for riders of all abilities and to help create trails for cyclists,? said Akradi.

The Leadville Qualifying Series of events has built on the allure of the Leadville Trail 100 with six events at major mountain biking destinations around the country. Life Time dedicated a portion of proceeds from the events to give back to the trails, communities and volunteers that are critical to high quality events. In addition, riders were given an opportunity to donate to IMBA during the registration process.

Launched in 1994 with only 13 riders, the Leadville Trail 100 MTB now attracts nearly 2,000 of the world?s fiercest competitors. In 2012, participants from 50 states and 35 countries will race on a demanding course with steep, technical climbs and descents all with the single goal of competing in a ?Race Across the Sky.? Competitors paid $15 to enter a lottery for race slots. Hundreds of entrants chose to contribute above and beyond to IMBA with their entry fees. A portion of the lottery proceeds are being used for charitable/non-profit and volunteer purposes.

?LQS competitors and Leadville lottery applicants can feel good about their contributions knowing that Life Time is supporting IMBA?s mission of creating and preserving great trails. IMBA is working in all 50 states to make sure that when racers go back home, they have a great place to ride, close to where they live,? said Van Abel.
