Mark Boucher expresses concern on AB de Villiers' workload ? Cricket News Update
South Africa?s former wicketkeeper/batsman, Mark Boucher, in an exclusive interview to cricket365.com has expressed concern regarding the workload on South Africa?s one-day captain, AB de Villiers.
The skipper who is also a handy wicketkeeper, is regarded as South Africa?s leading batsman, and with three jobs on his shoulders, he might feel under pressure soon enough.
Speaking on the role of the Proteas skipper, Boucher said, "If the team need AB to keep in order to strengthen the team then so be it - the teams comes first. My only concern is his workload, because I wouldn't want him to shed too much of his batting responsibilities because he's up there with the world's best batsmen.?
?I wouldn't want AB going into a Test worrying about his keeping, which I don't think has been the case but there is a tendency for it to happen if you look at batters who have kept in the past - their averages when they're just batting are maybe five or ten runs higher," said the former Proteas.
After beating hosts England in the three-match Test series by 2-0, South Africa became number-one team in Test cricket over the weekend, and now aim to win the five-match One Day International (ODI) series to dethrone England from their recently acquired number-one spot in the limited overs game.
However, de Villiers will have to wait for a win against the Poms as the opening game was ruined by rain on Friday.
With now four games to go, the series is expected to be close as both teams are aiming to overcome the other.
de Villiers in a recent interview stated that his side carried the bowling attack strong enough to rattle the meagre batting line-up of the hosts, as the Proteas skipper believes that England lack depth in their batting.
Meanwhile, England?s one-day captain Alastair Cook wants to avenge the Test defeat and salvage number-one spot against the Proteas. The England captain reckoned that with a new look one-day squad, the Test defeat would not be on the minds of most of the players, which would enable them to give their best against the visitors. ?
